The Supreme Court has temporarily blocked a Texas law enabling the arrest of migrants by state officers, with a hold in place until March 13. Texas has until March 11 to respond to the Justice Department’s emergency request, which argues the law disrupts a nearly 150-year immigration status quo.
The law, signed by Governor Greg Abbott, faces legal challenges from the Biden administration for potentially violating the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause. This legal battle intensifies as the law’s implementation was initially stopped by Federal Judge David Ezra, only to be briefly reinstated by the 5th Circuit Court’s stay, now paused by the Supreme Court’s intervention.
