Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is preparing to release a report linking the use of Tylenol during pregnancy to autism and suggesting a type of folate may help treat the disorder, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Kennedy has long promoted controversial views on autism. The report may be partially revealed later this month, sparking renewed scrutiny of acetaminophen, Tylenol’s active ingredient.

While some earlier studies indicated a possible link between prenatal acetaminophen use and increased autism or ADHD risk, a large 2024 Swedish study found no such link. Major health organizations, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, say there is no clear evidence that acetaminophen causes neurodevelopmental harm.

Kennedy’s report is also expected to endorse folinic acid (leucovorin) to improve symptoms in autistic children, though supporting research is limited.

An HHS spokesperson stated the report is not yet finalized and dismissed any early claims as speculative. Shares of Tylenol-maker Kenvue dropped sharply Friday in reaction.
