WASHINGTON, D.C. — Republican campaign groups are directing significant money and high-profile surrogates into states that President Donald Trump comfortably carried, as several 2026 races remain competitive less than seven weeks before the midterm elections.
Vice President JD Vance campaigned in Kansas this week for Republican Sen. Roger Marshall, who faces Democrat Adam Hamilton. A recent Co/efficient poll showed Marshall leading 49% to 44%, despite Trump carrying Kansas by more than 16 percentage points in 2024. The Washington Examiner reported that MAGA Inc. helped organize the event.
Vance is also campaigning in Iowa, where Republican gubernatorial nominee Zach Lahn faces Democratic State Auditor Rob Sand and Republican Ashley Hinson is running against Democrat Josh Turek for Senate. The Associated Press described both contests as closely contested.
Outside spending is substantial elsewhere. Senate Leadership Fund has committed tens of millions across Alaska, Iowa, Maine, North Carolina, Ohio and Texas, while Republican groups are also spending offensively in Michigan, Georgia and New Hampshire.
Trump-aligned groups have committed more than $130 million nationwide, while Axios reported roughly $390 million in Senate advertising has been allocated for the post-Labor Day period.
