Washington, D.C. — William Paul, the son of Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, issued a public apology Wednesday after allegedly making antisemitic and anti-gay remarks during a drunken confrontation with Republican Rep. Mike Lawler at a Washington bar.

In a social media statement, Paul said he drank too much and made comments that “don’t represent who I really am,” adding that he was seeking treatment for alcohol-related problems.

According to Lawler and witnesses interviewed by the political news outlet NOTUS, the incident occurred Tuesday night at the Tune Inn Restaurant & Bar near Capitol Hill. Lawler said Paul launched into what he described as a lengthy tirade targeting Jewish people and LGBTQ individuals, allegedly stating he “hates Jews and hates gays.”

The confrontation reportedly also involved criticism of Israel, conservative donor Paul Singer, and Kentucky Republican Rep. Thomas Massie’s contested primary race. Lawler called the remarks “disgusting” while emphasizing that political disagreements should never cross into hate speech.

William Paul has previously faced legal issues involving alcohol-related offenses, including assault and driving charges. Sen. Rand Paul’s office did not immediately comment on the incident.

The controversy comes amid growing tensions within segments of the Republican Party over foreign policy, Israel, and ideological divisions between establishment conservatives and libertarian-aligned factions.
