The Pentagon has reinstated webpages honoring Black veterans, the Navajo Code Talkers, and the Japanese-American 442nd Combat Regiment after a review led to their removal. Officials say the review aimed to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) content per Trump administration policies.
Pentagon spokesman John Ullyot stated that the Department recognizes service members for their patriotism, not race or gender, and criticized DEI as divisive. He emphasized the Pentagon’s commitment to honoring military heroes based on their dedication to the mission.
A Defense Department official admitted the review’s broad scope led to unintended removals, including images of the Enola Gay, the aircraft that dropped the atomic bomb on Japan. The official clarified that the process is ongoing and aims to comply with policy without erasing history.
