Chicago, Illinois — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez warned Democrats against aligning themselves with former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, even when Greene breaks with Republicans on issues such as the Jeffrey Epstein files.
Speaking Friday at an event hosted by the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics, Ocasio-Cortez was asked about working across the aisle and whether she stood by earlier comments about “legitimate white supremacist sympathizers” in the House Republican caucus. She said she did, adding that bipartisan work depends on trust and shared goals.
“I personally do not trust someone like Marjorie Taylor Greene, a proven bigot and antisemite, on the issues of what is good for Gazans and Israelis,” Ocasio-Cortez said. She argued that aligning left-wing movements with white nationalists does not help their cause.
Ocasio-Cortez contrasted Greene with Rep. Tim Burchett, a Tennessee Republican she said has criticized her personally but may still be a partner on issues such as banning congressional stock trading.
Greene and Ocasio-Cortez have clashed for years, including over ideology, foreign policy, and Greene’s comments about the New York Democrat’s background. Other progressives, including Rep. Ro Khanna and Sen. Bernie Sanders, have credited Greene when she challenged Trump-aligned Republicans over Epstein-related transparency.
