WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced she will oppose all U.S. military aid to Israel, marking a significant shift in her position and setting her apart from many Democratic leaders.
The New York congresswoman said she would no longer support funding for Israeli defense systems, including the Iron Dome, arguing that U.S. taxpayer dollars should not support a government she claims violates international and U.S. law.
Ocasio-Cortez previously backed defensive funding for Israel while opposing offensive military aid, but her new stance aligns more closely with progressive activists who have pushed for a complete cutoff. The move comes as public opinion among Democrats and independents has shifted, with recent polling showing declining support for Israel.
The policy change could carry political implications, particularly as Ocasio-Cortez is viewed as a potential 2028 presidential contender. It also reflects broader divisions within the Democratic Party over U.S. support for Israel during ongoing conflicts in the region.
Other progressive lawmakers have expressed similar views on limiting aid, though Ocasio-Cortez’s full opposition represents one of the clearest breaks from traditional U.S. policy.
