Washington, D.C. — Newly released Justice Department records are fueling renewed scrutiny of Jeffrey Epstein’s international connections after documents revealed extensive references to Russia, including President Vladimir Putin, and detailed efforts to recruit women that investigators say may have been used for leverage and blackmail.

The Justice Department on Friday released roughly three million documents, 180,000 images, and 2,000 videos tied to Epstein. According to reporting by the Sydney Morning Herald, more than 1,056 documents name Putin, while over 9,000 reference Moscow. Emails show Epstein arranging travel for young women from Moscow to Paris and New York and offering “Russian girls” for meetings with wealthy and powerful men.

Some emails describe what experts characterize as potential “kompromat” activity, a Russian intelligence tactic involving compromising material. In one exchange, Epstein proposed paying a woman $180,000 over two years to stop a blackmail attempt and warned her he had contacted friends in Russia’s FSB security service. Other messages reference possible meetings with Putin and outreach facilitated by individuals tied to Russian intelligence circles.

The files also include unverified claims that prominent figures were placed in compromising situations. Those named, including Prince Andrew, Bill Gates, Donald Trump, and Bill Clinton, have denied wrongdoing. U.S. officials say the documents do not establish criminal conduct but provide insight into Epstein’s global network and influence.

The disclosures add to longstanding questions about whether Epstein acted independently or with intelligence backing, an issue that remains unresolved.
