Protests erupted across the U.S. on Saturday outside Tesla dealerships in response to Elon Musk’s leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under President Donald Trump. Demonstrators objected to Musk’s influence over government restructuring and agency closures, which critics say jeopardize public services.

Rallies occurred at all 277 Tesla locations nationwide, with crowds forming in New Jersey, New York, Texas, and other states. Protesters displayed signs like “Honk if you hate Elon” and “Fight the billionaire broligarchy.” Overseas protests, including one in London, echoed the sentiment.

The “Tesla Takedown” movement, backed by disillusioned Tesla owners, celebrities such as John Cusack, and Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), aims to dent Tesla’s sales. Supporters emphasized peaceful protest, though a fire in Germany that destroyed seven Teslas is under investigation.

Critics allege Musk’s actions violate democratic norms, while some Tesla owners have removed branding or sold their vehicles. Musk dismissed the backlash during a recent company meeting and said he expects Tesla to remain the top-selling automaker globally.
