On Saturday, a significant wave of protests swept across the United States and internationally, as participants rallied under the banner of the “No Kings” movement, expressing their opposition to President Donald Trump and his administration. Organizers reported that over 2,700 events took place in all 50 states and several major cities worldwide, including London, Paris, Rome, and Lisbon.
The demonstrations come as the federal government shutdown approaches its third week, with growing frustration emerging over what critics have described as Trump’s “military crackdown” on Democratic-led cities. Prominent organizations supporting the protests included the American Civil Liberties Union, MoveOn, Indivisible, and the American Federation of Teachers, all advocating for a restoration of democratic values.
In response to the protests, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and other Republican lawmakers condemned the rallies, labeling them as “hate America” events and attributing the prolonged shutdown to the demonstrations. However, protest organizers firmly rejected these allegations, asserting that the events were peaceful and focused on promoting democratic principles.
According to a report by the Harvard Kennedy School, the protests in 2025 have garnered support from an increasingly diverse array of communities, including areas that historically supported Trump during his first campaign. This widespread participation signifies a notable shift in engagement among voters, reflecting the growing discontent with the current administration.
Major demonstrations were reported in key cities such as New York, Boston, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and West Palm Beach, where millions of participants marched with signs proclaiming slogans like “No Kings” and “Power to the People.” Organizers declared the turnout as one of the largest in modern U.S. history, highlighting the strength of collective dissent.
