House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) claimed Friday that President Donald Trump acted as an FBI informant in the Jeffrey Epstein case. The comment came as Johnson defended Trump’s recent remarks dismissing calls for more Epstein documents as a “Democrat Epstein Hoax.”

Johnson clarified that Trump wasn’t denying Epstein’s crimes but was criticizing Democrats for politicizing the issue. “It’s a terrible, unspeakable evil,” Johnson said, adding Trump kicked Epstein out of Mar-a-Lago upon learning of rumors. “He was an FBI informant to try to take this stuff down,” Johnson claimed.

The White House has not confirmed Trump’s alleged informant status. Johnson’s office also did not clarify his statement.

Trump has minimized his relationship with Epstein, but previously called him a “terrific guy” in 2002. Reports suggest the two socialized until a falling-out in 2004, allegedly over a real estate dispute and Epstein’s behavior toward a Mar-a-Lago member’s daughter.

Despite distancing himself, Trump’s past ties to Epstein continue to raise questions, especially as scrutiny over sealed case files grows.
