Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Ro Khanna (D-CA) filed a discharge petition Tuesday to force a House vote on releasing the complete Jeffrey Epstein files. The rare bipartisan move aims to bypass party leadership and respond to growing public frustration with the Department of Justice‘s limited disclosures.
The effort follows a DOJ memo stating Epstein died by suicide and that no “client list” was uncovered—a conclusion met with skepticism from many, including within the MAGA base. Massie, who has clashed with Donald Trump, emphasized the need for transparency, stating: “Americans were promised justice… We all deserve to know what’s in the Epstein files.”
Khanna, highlighting GOP infighting, said the goal is to ensure a full House vote and make public where each lawmaker stands. Discharge petitions are rarely successful, requiring 218 signatures and risking backlash from party leaders.
Trump, meanwhile, urged his supporters to move on from the controversy, calling Epstein “boring” and “somebody that nobody cares about,” which triggered his most “ratioed” Truth Social post since the platform launched.
