WASHINGTON, D.C. — Marjorie Taylor Greene is blaming Donald Trump and Republican leadership after Virginia voters approved a redistricting plan that could expand Democratic control in the state’s congressional delegation.
In a post on X, Greene argued that Republican policies and internal divisions contributed to the outcome, saying voter dissatisfaction is driving political shifts in states like Virginia. She pointed to issues including the ongoing Iran conflict, inflation, and other policy decisions as factors behind what she described as declining support among conservative voters.
The referendum, approved with roughly 51.5% support, allows Virginia’s Democratic-controlled legislature to redraw congressional maps ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. The change could increase Democrats’ advantage from a narrow 6-5 majority to as much as 10-1 in the state’s U.S. House delegation.
Trump had urged voters to reject the measure in a last-minute appeal, calling it a partisan effort, but the proposal passed despite opposition from Republican leaders.
The vote is part of a broader national redistricting battle, with both parties attempting to reshape congressional maps in key states ahead of November. Legal challenges remain possible, as the Virginia Supreme Court reviews related cases.
