A federal lawsuit filed Wednesday accuses the Trump administration of racially targeting brown-skinned individuals during immigration raids across Southern California. Filed in U.S. District Court by Los Angeles immigrant advocacy groups, the suit seeks a temporary restraining order to halt what plaintiffs describe as unconstitutional tactics — including warrantless arrests and denial of legal access.
The lawsuit highlights the cases of three detained immigrants, two U.S. citizens, and widespread raids at street corners, bus stops, and worksites. One citizen, Brian Gavidia, was recorded yelling “I was born here… East LA bro!” as he was detained by agents.
The ACLU alleges detainees were kept in “dungeon-like” conditions, forced to drink from toilets, and pressured into signing voluntary departure forms without legal counsel.
Homeland Security denied the allegations, calling claims of racial targeting “categorically FALSE” and asserting detainees receive proper care.
The lawsuit follows a federal effort to overturn Los Angeles’ sanctuary policies and comes amid mounting protests and violent clashes related to the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement surge.
