Kari Lake, a staunch Trump supporter and far-right figure, won Arizona’s Republican Senate primary, defeating Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb. Lake, who rose to prominence as a 2022 gubernatorial candidate, will now face Democratic U.S. Representative Ruben Gallego for the seat vacated by centrist independent Senator Kyrsten Sinema.

Lake, known for her election denialism, beat Lamb with about 60% of the vote. However, her polarizing stance might pose challenges in the general election, with moderate voters essential for a statewide victory.

The race is pivotal for the balance of power in the U.S. Senate, currently at a 51-49 Democratic majority. Polls show Gallego leading slightly over Lake, and election analysts lean towards a Democratic advantage.

Additionally, other far-right candidates saw mixed results in Arizona’s primaries. Abe Hamadeh leads in the GOP primary for the deep-red eighth congressional district, and Mark Finchem is ahead in his state senate race. In Maricopa County, election-denying candidates vied for key positions, reflecting the ongoing influence of right-wing conspiracy theories in Arizona politics.
