Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas failed to disclose additional travel provided by GOP mega-donor Harlan Crow, according to Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden (D-Ore.). In a letter to Crow’s lawyer, Wyden stated that Customs and Border Protection records revealed Thomas and his wife took a round-trip flight between Hawaii and New Zealand in November 2010.
“To date, Justice Thomas has never disclosed this private jet travel on any financial disclosure forms,” Wyden wrote. Justices must file annual financial disclosure forms detailing external income or gifts. Thomas’s latest disclosure included amendments for two trips funded by Crow but omitted the 2010 flights.
The New York Times first reported Wyden’s letter. This instance adds to previous undisclosed trips by Thomas funded by Crow in 2017, 2019, and 2021. Wyden expressed concern that Crow’s “extravagant gifts” aimed to lower his tax bill.
Crow’s spokesperson stated that the donor has “already addressed Senator Wyden’s inquiries,” dismissing them as harassment and asserting compliance with tax laws advised by national accounting firms.
