A federal judge found Rudy Giuliani in civil contempt Friday for violating an agreement to stop making false claims about Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss. Giuliani, already ordered to pay $146 million for defaming the workers, allegedly continued spreading baseless accusations on his nightly show.
U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell identified at least six violations, describing Giuliani’s actions as “the worst kind of defamation.” She ordered him to submit a sworn statement within 10 days affirming he reviewed evidence debunking his claims and acknowledging their falsity. Noncompliance will result in daily $200 fines, escalating to potential jail time after 30 days.
Freeman and Moss’s lawyer proposed fining Giuliani $20,000 for future violations, payable from exempt assets like his retirement accounts. Giuliani, claiming financial strain, acknowledged $1 million in protected accounts and a $3.5 million Florida condo.
This ruling follows another contempt finding against Giuliani in Manhattan for stalling judgment collections.
