Teresa Borrenpohl, the Idaho woman forcibly removed from a Republican town hall in Coeur d’Alene on February 22, is seeking $5 million in damages, alleging violations of her constitutional rights. In a tort claim filed Monday with the Kootenai County Clerk, Borrenpohl names several men, including Kootenai County Sheriff Robert Norris, and private security firm LEAR Asset Management.

Video of the event shows Borrenpohl being pulled from her seat by unidentified men in black clothing after she disrupted the event. She asked who they were and whether they were deputies—receiving no answer. Sheriff Norris also attempted to remove her and later instructed the men to do so.

Six men involved have since been charged with various offenses, including battery and false imprisonment. LEAR Asset Management has had its business license revoked for violating city ordinances related to identification requirements.

Borrenpohl maintains her First Amendment rights were violated, stating, “I could have never imagined my right to free speech and my right to assemble could be stripped in such a violent way.”
