Hunter Biden’s appeal to dismiss gun charges was rejected by a federal appeals court panel, paving the way for his trial on June 3. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in Philadelphia stated that an appeal was not possible as the lower court had not yet given a final judgment. Following this, U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika ordered the trial to begin in Wilmington, Delaware.
Hunter Biden was appealing against orders by Noreika, who denied motions to dismiss two counts accusing him of lying about using illegal narcotics when purchasing a handgun in 2018 and a third count of illegal possession of the weapon. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison. The trial coincides with Joe Biden’s reelection campaign.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump is on trial in New York, accused of illegally covering up a $130,000 payment to a porn star before the 2016 election. Hunter Biden also faces criminal tax charges in California.
