Hunter Biden has formally requested the dismissal of his criminal tax and gun cases following a full pardon granted by President Joe Biden on Sunday. His attorney, Abbe Lowell, filed notices with the courts, including a sworn statement from Hunter accepting the pardon.

Lowell argued that the charges should now be dismissed with prejudice, citing precedent where courts terminated proceedings after presidential pardons.

President Biden’s pardon explicitly covers Hunter’s pending prosecutions and any federal offenses committed since January 1, 2014. Hunter was previously convicted on gun-related felonies in Delaware and pleaded guilty to nine tax charges in California to avoid trial. His sentencing hearings were scheduled for mid-December.

In a statement, President Biden defended his decision, calling the legal proceedings against his son politically motivated and asserting that it represented a “miscarriage of justice.”
