Vice President Kamala Harris promised not to raise taxes on individuals earning less than $400,000 annually if elected. This pledge extends President Joe Biden’s central economic promise, emphasizing that corporations and the wealthy should bear a larger tax burden. Harris aims to appeal to working-class voters by maintaining this commitment while building her economic platform.
At a Wisconsin rally, Harris stated, “Building up the middle class will be a defining goal of my presidency.” Her campaign contrasts sharply with former President Donald Trump, who advocated for significant corporate tax cuts.
Harris criticized Trump’s tax policies at an American Federation of Teachers convention, asserting, “America has tried these failed economic policies, but we are not going back.” While Harris has yet to outline her detailed economic agenda, her promise signals continuity with Biden’s approach, focusing on middle-class support and avoiding more progressive tax increases.
