Elena Cardone, the spouse of investor Grant Cardone, initiated a GoFundMe campaign aimed at supporting former President Donald Trump’s legal expenses following a significant financial judgment against him in a New York fraud case. The crowdfunding goal is set at $355 million, matching the penalty amount Judge Arthur Engoron imposed on Trump in the civil fraud case. By Saturday night, the fundraiser had already attracted over $185,000 from more than 4,000 contributors.
The penalty, which could escalate to over $450 million with interest according to the New York attorney general’s office, is part of a series of legal challenges Trump faces.
This financial penalty follows another court order requiring Trump to pay $83.3 million for defaming writer E. Jean Carroll, in addition to a previous $5 million payment to Carroll last year. Trump’s legal team has criticized the verdict as a result of a “politically fueled witch hunt” and intends to appeal the decision.
