The Democratic National Committee announced Thursday it will significantly increase funding to state and territorial parties, particularly those in Republican-led states, as part of a renewed 50-state strategy.

DNC Chair Ken Martin said each state party will now receive a baseline of $17,500 monthly—a $5,000 increase—with red-state parties receiving an extra $5,000. The move marks a substantial shift in DNC priorities, with state-level contributions set to rise from 8% to over 20% of the overall budget.

Former DNC chair Howard Dean, who led the original strategy credited with Democratic wins in 2006 and 2008, joined a press call praising the shift. “We have not been anything but a Washington, D.C.-centric party since 2008,” Dean said.

The strategy reflects an effort to rebuild party infrastructure across the country and counter Republican control in many state legislatures.
