Donald Trump is facing the highest disapproval rating of his second term, according to a new Economist/YouGov poll. The survey, conducted July 11–14, found that 55% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s job performance, while 41% approve—a reversal from his early second-term numbers, when 49% approved and 43% disapproved.
Support has eroded most among Democrats and independents. Trump’s approval among Democrats dropped from 12% in January to just 3% now. Among independents, approval has fallen from 41% to 29% over the same period.
Republican backing, however, remains firm. Approval among Republicans overall is at 92%, just below the 94% recorded at the start of Trump’s second term. The poll further distinguishes between self-identified MAGA Republicans and non-MAGA Republicans. Trump maintains near-universal approval—about 98%—among the MAGA-aligned. Approval among non-MAGA Republicans has rebounded to 85% after dipping as low as 70% in April.
Despite minor weekly shifts, the steady rise in overall disapproval signals growing challenges as the administration heads deeper into its second term.
