House Democrats are using the conservative policy blueprint Project 2025 as a focal point in their campaign to regain control of the House in the upcoming November elections. They argue that House Republicans are already aligning with the document’s right-wing agenda and will further pursue its controversial policies if they maintain power.
Project 2025, developed by the Heritage Foundation, outlines a range of conservative goals, including scaling back abortion access, eliminating federal departments, and opposing LGBTQ+ rights and climate change efforts. Democrats have held briefings to educate lawmakers on these proposals, aiming to highlight them in town halls and district events.
Representative Rosa DeLauro warned, “They’re on the road to trying to make these things a reality.” The Project 2025 task force, led by Rep. Jared Huffman, is working to link the document’s policies to GOP candidates in swing districts.
Republicans, however, dismiss the effort as a distraction, with the GOP’s campaign arm calling the attack a “fabricated” narrative. Despite this, Democrats are encouraged by polls showing public disapproval of Project 2025, using it as a key talking point as Election Day nears.
