Democrats scored major gains in two key battlegrounds Tuesday, flipping a pivotal Wisconsin Supreme Court seat and cutting Republican margins in deep-red Florida by nearly half.

In Wisconsin, liberal Judge Susan Crawford defeated conservative Judge Brad Schimel with 55% of the vote to Schimel’s 45%, maintaining the court’s 4–3 liberal majority. The high-turnout election—where more than $99 million was spent—was widely seen as a referendum on President Trump. Despite heavy backing from Trump and Elon Musk, Crawford prevailed and celebrated by referencing Musk directly: “I never could have imagined that I’d be taking on the richest man in the world… and we won.”

Meanwhile, in Florida, Democrats made striking inroads in two congressional special elections. Though Republicans held both seats, their margins fell dramatically. In FL-1, Jimmy Patronis beat Democrat Gay Valimont by 15 points, down from Matt Gaetz’s 32-point win in November. In FL-6, Randy Fine defeated Josh Weil by 14 points—19 points lower than November’s result.

Florida Democrats hailed the overperformance as “historic,” with state party chair Nikki Fried declaring, “Voters are already rejecting Trump’s extreme agenda.”
