Washington, D.C. — Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., escalated his push for additional Jeffrey Epstein records Monday, naming more than a dozen people on the House floor whom he described as “coconspirators” and launching a discharge petition for new transparency legislation.
Massie said the government continues to withhold more than 3 million Epstein-related records despite passage of the first Epstein Files Transparency Act last year. He is now seeking 218 House signatures to force a vote on the Epstein Files Transparency Act II.
The new proposal would expand access to federal Epstein records for survivors, state attorneys general and other authorized prosecutors, while creating additional avenues to challenge Justice Department decisions to withhold or redact material.
Massie named 14 people during his floor speech, including former Prince Andrew and retail billionaire Les Wexner. However, Massie’s characterization does not itself establish criminal wrongdoing, and several of those he named have not been charged with crimes connected to Epstein. Wexner has denied knowledge of Epstein’s criminal activity, while Andrew has denied allegations made against him.
Massie has worked with Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California on efforts to force greater disclosure of Epstein-related records.
The first transparency law led to the release of millions of pages, images and videos, although lawmakers including Massie argue significant material remains improperly withheld.
