Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) has launched the American Mobilization Project, a new political action committee aimed at opposing Donald Trump and his Republican allies in Congress. The PAC will initially distribute $400,000 to groups focused on protecting Medicaid and registering young voters, with plans to spend over $2 million during the 2026 midterm elections.
“If we don’t act aggressively right now to organize and mobilize, we may not have our democracy in 2026,” Murphy said, warning that Trump’s return to power threatens democratic institutions. He denied any intention of running for president in 2028, saying the focus must be on immediate action.
The PAC’s first recipients include youth-focused organizations in swing states Georgia and Pennsylvania, and a health care advocacy group organizing doctors in Louisiana, Michigan, and Utah. Murphy emphasized that the effort is about grassroots action, not campaign fundraising: “It’s not about banking money… it’s about mobilization.”
