Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced he will block U.S. deportation flights carrying Colombian migrants, criticizing President Trump’s new immigration policies. “The U.S. cannot treat Colombian migrants as criminals,” Petro posted on X, rejecting military planes carrying deportees.
Trump’s administration recently began using military aircraft to deport migrants under an executive order signed last week. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has initiated arrests nationwide as part of the broader crackdown.
Petro accused the U.S. of rushing the plan without proper protocols, calling for a “dignified treatment” of migrants. He emphasized that migrants are “human beings and subjects of rights.”
Petro also pointed out that thousands of undocumented Americans live in Colombia and urged them to seek assistance from Colombian immigration services.
