A coalition of Christian leaders is speaking out against a new White House task force created to combat so-called anti-Christian bias. In a letter signed by more than two dozen religious leaders and scholars, the group expressed concern that the task force—established by President Trump in February—will be used to elevate one conservative interpretation of Christianity while silencing others.

The signatories, including Rev. Paul Brandeis Raushenbush of the Interfaith Alliance and Rev. Liz Theoharis of the Poor People’s Campaign, warned the task force could deepen religious divisions and be used to justify white supremacy under the guise of religious freedom. They cited the administration’s targeting of liberal Christian immigration aid groups, such as Lutheran Family Services and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers defended the effort, saying it reflects Trump’s commitment to defending religious liberty. But a new PRRI poll found 78% of Americans oppose the task force’s creation and reject the idea that Christians face widespread discrimination in the U.S.
