Iberia Parish, Louisiana — At least 13 people were injured after a vehicle drove into a crowd during a parade at the Louisiana Lao New Year Festival, authorities said.
The incident occurred in Iberia Parish, about 20 miles southeast of Lafayette, where police reported that a driver struck multiple parade participants. Officials said the driver is in custody and preliminary findings suggest the crash was not intentional.
Emergency responders transported 11 victims to hospitals by ambulance, while two others were airlifted due to the severity of their injuries. Authorities described some injuries as serious.
Festival organizers expressed condolences, stating they were “profoundly saddened” by the incident and were praying for those affected. The annual event typically takes place around Easter and draws large crowds.
Gov. Jeff Landry also issued a statement offering prayers for the victims and thanking first responders for their actions.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including what led to the driver entering the crowded area.
