The Biden administration announced the allocation of $1.8 billion in grants for 148 infrastructure projects across the U.S. through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) program. This funding, bolstered by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, brings the total to 550 projects funded by the administration. The infrastructure law added $1.5 billion annually to the RAISE project grants.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg highlighted the significant improvement in America’s infrastructure due to these investments. The announcement, coming just months before the November election, includes funding for projects in both red and blue states.
Notable allocations include $12 million for the Alaska Highway, $23.5 million for electric buses in Maine, $25 million for a rail crossing in California, $23 million for road development in Florida, $25 million for a footbridge in Pennsylvania, and $21.2 million for wharf reconstruction in Puerto Rico. Additionally, Michigan will receive $20.7 million to connect communities, and North Carolina will get $12 million to improve bus route intersections. The Transportation Department received over $13 billion in funding requests, demonstrating the high demand for infrastructure investment.
