The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a new record in health insurance enrollments through the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) marketplace, reaching over 20 million for 2024. This marks a significant increase from the 16.3 million enrollments in 2023. President Biden highlighted this achievement as a major step towards affordable healthcare for all Americans, noting an increase of 8 million ACA enrollees since he took office.

The 2024 enrollment period, ending soon, featured several distinctive factors. The enrollment period also allowed more time for applicants on HealthCare.gov to submit income verification documents.

The Health and Human Services Secretary, Xavier Becerra, praised this milestone, linking the increased healthcare coverage to potential improvements in national health and reduction in overall healthcare costs. Furthermore, the marketplace saw participation from more insurers than ever before, offering a broader range of plan options to customers.
