Boise, Idaho — Dr. Ryan Cole, an Idaho pathologist known for criticizing COVID-19 vaccines, will remain on the board of Central District Health, the state’s largest public health district.
Ada County commissioners unanimously voted June 16 to reappoint Cole, and enough surrounding county commissioners later supported the move to make it official. His new term runs through June 2031. Central District Health serves Ada, Boise, Elmore, and Valley counties.
Cole has served on the board since 2021. His reappointment comes after continued scrutiny of his COVID-related statements and medical work. Washington state regulators restricted his medical license after finding he spread COVID misinformation and improperly treated patients with ivermectin. The Idaho Board of Medicine later reached an agreement requiring him to comply with Washington’s disciplinary order.
Cole also faced a medical malpractice lawsuit in Idaho involving an alleged false cancer diagnosis, though the case was dismissed after a legal agreement.
Central District Health still offers COVID vaccine appointments, but board chairman Greg Ferch said he would be open to considering a policy similar to one adopted by Southwest Idaho Health District, which stopped offering COVID vaccines in 2024.
