Dalton, GA — President Donald Trump mocked the popularity of the name Mohammad during a campaign rally in Georgia on Friday, drawing renewed criticism over rhetoric targeting Muslims and Middle Eastern communities.

Speaking at Dalton Municipal Airport, Trump was discussing Iran when he joked that if someone did not know a Middle Eastern person’s name, calling them “Mohammad” would supposedly give them a 65% chance of being correct.

Trump then extended the joke while mocking Iran’s political leadership. Reuters reported that the crowd response was muted.

Mohammad, along with spelling variants such as Muhammad and Mohammed, is widely used among Muslims around the world because of its association with the Prophet Muhammad.

The remarks came amid a broader series of attacks by Trump on Muslim and immigrant political figures during the 2026 midterm campaign. He has repeatedly targeted Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar and Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, both of whom are Muslim.

Muslim civil-rights organizations have criticized Trump’s rhetoric, arguing that repeated attacks involving religion, ethnicity and immigration contribute to hostility toward Muslim Americans.

Trump made the comments as he campaigned for Republican candidates ahead of the Nov. 3 elections while continuing to discuss the ongoing U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran.
