San Diego, California — Court records show police seized dozens of firearms from the family home of one of the suspects involved in Monday’s deadly shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego more than a year before the attack.

Authorities say 18-year-old Caleb Vazquez and 17-year-old Cain Clark opened fire at the mosque, killing three people before both died by suicide. Investigators later recovered roughly 30 weapons from multiple properties connected to the suspects.

According to court documents, police obtained a January 2025 order allowing officers to remove 26 firearms from the home of Caleb Vazquez’s father after concerns emerged about the teen’s behavior. Investigators reportedly documented that Vazquez idolized Nazis and mass shooters and displayed troubling extremist behavior online.

Officials also said Vazquez had previously been placed on a 72-hour mental health hold due to concerns about violent ideation and fascination with mass shootings. Investigators believe Vazquez and Clark became connected online and reinforced each other’s extremist views.

The FBI is continuing to investigate possible ideological motives and is reviewing a 75-page manifesto reportedly recovered from the suspects’ vehicle. Authorities have not yet released full details about the document’s contents.

In a public statement, the Vazquez family condemned extremist rhetoric and propaganda while acknowledging concerns about the teen’s mental health struggles despite attempts to seek therapy and treatment.
