NEW YORK, New York — A series of major developments across the media industry drew national attention Wednesday, ranging from political backlash over reporting to new concerns about press freedom and a high-profile network anchor change. According to Media Bias/Fact Check’s daily media roundup, President Donald Trump sharply criticized The New York Times, calling its reporting on his health “seditious” and “treasonous.” The Times defended its work, citing expert sources and its responsibility to evaluate the fitness of elected officials.
In a separate development, the International Fact-Checking Network condemned reported U.S. directives instructing State Department officials to deny visas to individuals working in fact-checking, trust and safety, and content moderation roles. IFCN argued the move conflates journalism with censorship and warned it could undermine global press freedom and digital safety efforts.
Meanwhile, CBS announced that CBS Mornings co-anchor Tony Dokoupil will take over CBS Evening News beginning January 5, 2026. The decision follows a months-long search after the departures of John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois. Network leadership praised Dokoupil’s interviewing style and plans to relaunch the flagship broadcast with a national tour.
