MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A Minnesota man accused of spraying Rep. Ilhan Omar during a public event has agreed to plead guilty as part of a settlement with prosecutors.

Anthony Kazmierczak, 55, changed his plea after initially pleading not guilty to charges tied to the January incident at a Minneapolis town hall hosted by Urban League Twin Cities. Prosecutors said Kazmierczak approached Omar while she was speaking and sprayed her with apple cider vinegar.

Court records indicate Kazmierczak faced both federal and state charges, including assault and making threats of violence. A change-of-plea hearing is scheduled for next month. He has remained in custody since his arrest shortly after the incident.

Authorities also cited statements from an associate alleging Kazmierczak had previously expressed violent intent toward Omar, underscoring the seriousness of the case.

Omar was not physically injured and continued speaking for nearly 30 minutes after the incident, later saying she was “really OK” and would not be intimidated.

The case comes as concerns about threats and violence against public officials remain elevated nationwide, particularly during public appearances and political events.
