PHOENIX, ARIZONA — Republican voters nominated several prominent allies of President Donald Trump for Arizona’s highest statewide offices Tuesday, elevating candidates who challenged or sought to overturn the certified results of the 2020 election.
Rep. Andy Biggs won the Republican nomination for governor and will face Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs in November. Biggs supported efforts to contest Trump’s 2020 defeat and was subpoenaed during an Arizona investigation into attempts to reverse the state’s results.
State Rep. Alexander Kolodin secured the GOP nomination for secretary of state. Kolodin represented Republicans who signed documents falsely claiming Trump won Arizona and filed unsuccessful lawsuits challenging the 2020 and 2022 elections. He will face Democratic Secretary of State Adrian Fontes.
State Senate President Warren Petersen also won the Republican attorney general nomination. Petersen supported the Republican-led review of Maricopa County’s 2020 ballots, which confirmed President Joe Biden’s victory while identifying no evidence that changed the result.
Trump endorsed all three candidates. Their victories demonstrate his continued influence over Arizona Republican primary voters, although similar candidates struggled statewide in 2022 and 2024.
Arizona remains politically competitive, with unaffiliated voters likely to play a decisive role in November. Biggs will challenge Hobbs, Petersen will face Attorney General Kris Mayes, and Kolodin will run against Fontes.
