Lexington, Kentucky — A Kentucky man is facing multiple charges after police said he spiked a container of chocolate milk with methamphetamine at a men’s drug recovery center, sickening five people.

Eric Rhule, 34, was arrested in Lexington and charged with five counts of wanton endangerment, one count of trafficking in a controlled substance, and one count of possession of a controlled substance. The incident reportedly happened at a recovery facility where several people later became ill after drinking from the container.

According to Lexington Police, surveillance video showed Rhule placing an unknown substance into the chocolate milk. Authorities said at least five people drank from the container before becoming sick.

Rhule’s probation officer later confronted him, and officials said Suboxone and methamphetamine were found in his possession. He was taken into custody and booked into the Fayette County Detention Center.

The allegations are especially troubling because the incident occurred at a drug recovery center, where residents are often working to avoid exposure to controlled substances. Police have not released additional details about the medical condition of those who became ill.

The case will proceed through Fayette County’s court system as prosecutors review the charges.
