Coral Springs, Florida — Authorities are investigating the death of Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen as a domestic violence case after she was found dead inside her home.
Police conducted a welfare check at her residence and discovered her body, later identifying her as the victim. Officials said her husband, Stephen Bowen, is in custody and faces charges including first-degree murder and evidence tampering.
According to investigators, the case is being treated as a domestic-related incident. Reports indicate Metayer Bowen’s body was found wrapped in blankets after a 911 call from a relative prompted police to enter the home.
Metayer Bowen, the first Black and Haitian American woman elected to the Coral Springs City Commission, was widely recognized for her public service and community advocacy. Her family described her as a “dedicated public servant” who led with “integrity, compassion, and an unwavering sense of purpose.”
Local and state officials expressed shock and grief following her death. Rep. Jared Moskowitz said he had recently seen her and called the loss “terrible,” while other leaders highlighted her impact on the community.
Authorities have not released full details surrounding the circumstances of the incident as the investigation continues.
