Harrisburg, PA — Democratic Sen. John Fetterman has become dramatically more popular with Pennsylvania Republicans than members of his own party, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.
The survey found 72% of Republican likely voters view Fetterman favorably, compared with only 13% of Democrats. Among all likely voters, 37% hold a favorable view while 46% view him unfavorably. Independents were also negative, with 27% favorable and 49% unfavorable.
The reversal follows Fetterman’s increasingly frequent criticism of Democrats and cooperation with President Donald Trump. He appeared by video at the Republican Party’s September midterm convention, where he praised working across party lines and received an enthusiastic response from GOP attendees.
Earlier polling showed the shift developing rapidly. In July, 77% of Pennsylvania Republicans approved of Fetterman’s job performance while 69% of Democrats disapproved. By August, nearly four-fifths of Republican likely voters viewed him favorably.
Fetterman has repeatedly rejected speculation that he plans to become a Republican and continues to identify as a Democrat. However, Pennsylvania voters increasingly perceive him differently: a September survey found a majority considered him more Republican than Democratic.
