MIAMI-DADE, Fla. — Authorities in Miami-Dade County arrested a man accused of scamming a Catholic school out of more than $223,000 after allegedly failing to complete contracted construction work.
According to investigators, St. Kevin Catholic School hired Nestor Olivares in September 2024 through a company called Creed Metal to install 13 aluminum roof structures. Deputies say Olivares never delivered the materials or completed the project as agreed.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office alleges Olivares was not licensed to perform the work and misled the school about refunding the money. In February 2026, he reportedly promised to return the funds but instead provided false banking documents suggesting a wire transfer had been initiated.
Authorities arrested Olivares at his home near the school in the Tamiami area one day before Easter. He faces charges including first-degree grand theft, forgery, and contracting without a license.
As of Monday, Olivares remained in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $30,150 bond. Officials say he must verify that any bond funds come from legitimate sources before release.
The case follows a previous incident involving the same church last year, though that matter is no longer active in court records.
