BATON ROUGE, LA — Ten people were injured in a shooting at the Mall of Louisiana on Thursday afternoon after an argument between two groups escalated into gunfire, according to police.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said the incident occurred around 1:25 p.m. in the mall’s food court. Authorities indicated the shooting was not random and stemmed from a dispute between individuals, though suspects had not been apprehended as of the latest update.

Officials said there is no ongoing threat to the public, but urged residents to avoid the area while multiple law enforcement agencies respond and investigate.

Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sid Edwards condemned the violence, saying authorities are working to identify and arrest those responsible. Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry said he had been briefed on what he described earlier as an “active shooter scene” and confirmed coordination with law enforcement.

A mall spokesperson confirmed the shooting but directed further inquiries to police. State Attorney General Liz Murrill also advised the public to stay clear of the area as the situation develops.

The incident adds to ongoing concerns about public safety in crowded spaces, though officials emphasized this appears to be an isolated conflict rather than a broader threat.
