The United States announced its potentially final military aid package to Ukraine, worth up to $250 million, unless Congress approves additional funding. This package includes air munitions, missiles, artillery, anti-armor systems, ammunition, demolition and medical equipment, and parts, all drawn from the Pentagon’s stockpiles through the Presidential Drawdown Authority.
Marine Lt. Col. Garron Garn, a Pentagon spokesman, stated that without supplemental funding, there will be a shortfall in replenishing U.S. military stocks, affecting American military readiness. The Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, providing long-term funding for future weapons contracts, has also run out of money.
President Joe Biden is urging Congress to pass a $110 billion aid package covering various national security needs, including $61.4 billion for Ukraine. This package is intended to replenish Pentagon stocks and support other global security challenges, including $14 billion for Israel and U.S. border security.
The aid to Ukraine marked as the 54th tranche, is claimed to be essential for its defense and offensive efforts against Russia, especially during the ongoing winter months. This announcement comes amid continued hostilities in Ukraine, including recent Russian drone attacks and Ukrainian military actions against Russian forces in the Black Sea.
