In a high-profile defamation trial, Georgia election worker Wandrea “Shaye” Moss testified about the severe impact Rudy Giuliani’s false fraud accusations have had on her life. Moss, who appeared in court on Tuesday, detailed her ongoing fear and trauma resulting from Giuliani’s claims linking her and her mother, Ruby Freeman, to a conspiracy theory of rigging the 2020 state election results.
Moss recounted how these baseless accusations turned her life upside down, leading to panic attacks, nightmares, and a barrage of threatening and racist messages. She expressed a constant fear for her life, stating that the lies could result in her death. The trial will determine the compensation Giuliani must pay to Moss and Freeman for the defamation.
In December 2020, Giuliani falsely accused State Farm Arena workers in Atlanta, including Moss, of ballot tampering. This accusation led to a flood of graphic and threatening messages against Moss. Once a bubbly and outgoing person, Moss now struggles with a cycle of crying and nightmares. She also shared a disturbing incident where someone threatened to make a “citizen arrest” at her grandmother’s home.
Giuliani, who faces separate criminal charges in Georgia for attempting to overturn Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss, has pleaded not guilty. In the defamation case, the judge has already found Giuliani liable. The key issue remaining is the amount of damages to be awarded, with Moss’s lawyers estimating potential damages up to $47 million.
Giuliani’s lawyer argued that his client was not directly responsible for the threats and harassment Moss faced. The trial continues, with Giuliani expected to testify, despite the risk of his statements being used in his criminal case.
