The Justice Department has taken legal action against Texas Governor Greg Abbott due to a floating barrier established along the Rio Grande, which aims to prevent migrants from crossing into the US.
The lawsuit argues that this barrier presents humanitarian and environmental concerns, and requests a court order to remove the approximately 1,000-foot line of bright orange buoys.
The state of Texas is accused of unlawfully installing the barrier near the border city of Eagle Pass without permission. Governor Abbott has defended the barrier in a letter to President Biden, stating that Texas will take legal action over the issue and accusing the President of not doing enough to deter migrants.
