The U.S. House of Representatives has approved the fiscal 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a legislation that establishes guidelines for the Department of Defense and approves a budget of $886 billion. The vote largely followed party lines, with the bill’s prospects of becoming law remaining uncertain due to culturally conservative amendments introduced by Republicans. Consequently, many Democrats have chosen not to endorse the bill.

Noteworthy provisions in the House measure include a salary increase for military personnel, measures aimed at countering China’s influence, and additional funding to assist Ukraine in response to the Russian invasion in 2021.
