Berlin, Germany — The United States will withdraw approximately 5,000 troops from Germany over the next year, according to Pentagon officials, marking a significant shift in U.S. military posture in Europe.
The planned drawdown includes the removal of a brigade combat team and the cancellation of a scheduled deployment of a long-range fires battalion. Officials said the withdrawal is expected to be completed within 12 months.
