President Donald Trump warned U.S. farmers to prepare for major tariffs set to take effect on April 2. In a Truth Social post, he urged them to focus on selling products domestically, stating, “Tariffs will go on external product on April 2nd. Have fun!”

Trump has long criticized what he calls unfair trade practices by other nations, particularly China and the European Union, accusing them of limiting U.S. agricultural exports while benefiting from American markets. China has already imposed tariffs on U.S. farm machinery in response to Trump’s 10% blanket tariff.

During his first term, Trump targeted Canada’s 270% dairy tariff, arguing it hurt American farmers. Now, some agricultural leaders and lawmakers, including Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), are calling for exemptions, particularly for potash, a key fertilizer. Farmers remain concerned about the impact of tariffs on exports, especially to China, a major agricultural market.
